The POS stock power supply had gone tits up. I had a spare Japanese Astrodyne 12V 5A PSU lying around, so I drilled some holes in the back of the case and ran the mains and 12V wires out the back and connected them to the new supply. The new supply was stuck to the case with double sided foam tape.
This fix will have product safety types shitting bricks because of the exposed mains terminals on the back (since covered with electrical tape), but I get a $350 TV for five bucks or so (what I paid for the new PSU; the TV was free). Note that there is a risk of electrocution when doing this. This stuff is only to be attempted if you are competent with electricity and know what you are doing blah blah blah.
Depends on how confident you are at opening things and fixing electronics. For the most part if the tv is a few years old then the power board has almost gone. The culprit in most cases are caps or capacitors gone bad on the power board of the Lcd tv to feed power to the Lcd screen, its back light and the audio, tuner and tv settings. Caps can be replaced to fix the problem, but you have to match the ones used with equal ratings.
How to tell if the caps are the problem with electrolytic capacitors is to look at them if the tops are very domed or discolored or it looks like liquid has leaked out. They need to be replaced.

Leave it for half an hour for the caps to warm up. Turn it off then on again and if it works the caps are bad. The caps them self can be bought for as little as £2.50 or less. Depending on there size ect. All you need to do then is be handy with a soldering iron. Option two bin it and buy a new one.
